Not getting the saxophone sound you would like? Confused by the plethora of different brands and cuts of saxophone reeds? Then you've come to the right place! An honest, detailed and impartial review of Rico by D'Addario Alto Saxophone Reeds.....

Rico Reeds are THE bestselling saxophone reeds in the world! They are are a classic reed traditionally used by jazz saxophonists throughout history. Traditional Rico reeds are unfiled meaning that the the vamp is shaped straight into the bark giving a more powerful, dark, projecting sound. This also facilitates an ease of blowing in the very early stages of development.

Due to their great value price, Rico Alto Saxophone Reeds are also a staple amongst student sax players and with good reason. Made from French and Argentinian Cane grown in its own plantations, Rico is the only reed company which grows 100% of its own cane. Beginners will often go through a lot of reeds initially so this makes Rico the best saxophone reed due to their great quality and relatively low cost.

Rico reeds provide a slightly brighter sound compared to the filed "French Cut" reeds. As an unfiled "American Cut" reed the classic Rico reed lends itself to the jazz, funk and pop genres as opposed to classical music. Rico reeds are also slightly softer compared with other brands so you will need to purchase 1/2 strength harder than normal if you are considering changing brands.

Rico by D'Addario Reeds come in individual plastic cases for protection and are surprisingly consistent given their cheap price tag - a classic saxophone reed for beginners and professionals alike!
